Did you know washing machines can catch fire too?

So this past weekend has been kind of like a wash between being good and bad...

We went over budget on groceries but we still got really good deals on what we bought. But I honestly just don't care at this point. I think we are needing to redo our grocery budget anyways as the kids are getting bigger and eating more and I am pregnant so I am hungry about 24/7 right now so we are going to be spending more. The grocery budget needs to grow a little since our family is growing....

I babysat Saturday night and I am sure glad I did! The kids were well behaved and it gave me an excuse to make a semi-big breakfast (I could probably live off breakfast foods!- any day anytime, day or night!).

After the kids were all picked up Sunday morning though, I decided to get started on some laundry as the kids' hampers were full ("Yay, Laundry!" - sarcasm). About 10 minutes after starting the load I smelled something burning and immediately ran to the laundry room to find it filling with smoke!! My first thought was the dryer and the lent catching on fire so I immediately shut the dryer off and then grabbed the fire extinguisher. My husband was not home so I went into super anxiety mode because I could not climb up to see if there was anything burning behind the dryer and could not pull the dryer out as it was too heavy and I am 8 months prego right now. But the smoke was filling up the room so I opened up the door the goes out to the garage and turn on the fan to try and vent the smoke out of the house. I also turned off the washer too at this point worried about electrical fires and could not pin-point where the smoke was coming from. Since I didn't see any flames I didn't call the fire department as the smoke was starting to clear once I had the house opened up so I was sure nothing was actually on fire. But when I opened the lid to the washer smoke poured out despite it being filled with water and wet clothes and the room now smelt like burnt rubber, kinda like when a belt on a car gets really/too hot. It was the washer! So all of the money I earned babysitting plus some went towards this really old washer that a lady, who coincidentally lived down the street, had for sale on craigslist as that was all I could afford. But the washer we bought works fine and after my husband and dad looked over the one that was smoking, they discovered it was not spinning and the belt to make it spin broke and was getting hot sitting there and that was what was causing the smoke. So if its something that can easily be fixed (and for cheap) we are just going to have it fixed and sell the one we bought from the neighbor.

My parents love to spoil my kids. They are their only grandkids though so I guess its part of the territory. This weekend they picked up a wooden swing set/play set that was on sale at Toys R Us for them and came over all day Sunday to set it up and my dad came back over today to help my husband finish. It was nice to have them over and to be able to hang out and have lunch and dinner with them. Its a nice set too and I know its going to get tons of use but I was surprised by how much it was even being on sale when I found out the price. I am truly grateful for it and I know the kids are ecstatic but I kinda feel guilty (don't know if that's the right word or not for this situation) for my parents to fork out so much for it. We didn't ask them to do it and didn't even know this set even existed until they asked us if they could get it for the kids (and when they asked us they did not mention how much it was either, just that it was on sale for a really good deal). But I know that they are aware things have been tight. We are getting by but its just been so super tight and stressful barely making it so I guess I feel guilty like this is their way of helping us financially by buying the kids something like this since we can't right now or something, I don't know... But I think I am going to just go with my friends advise and let them spoil the kids since they were the ones to initiate it, can afford it and its their only grandkids and if they don't now they will on the birthdays or Christmas or some other holiday or something, and just be grateful that I have parents who love their grandchildren and like doing things like that for them.

It is my anniversary today too. A full 2 years married. It kinds sounds funny when I say it, since its only been 2 years, but in reality me and my husband have been together 7-8 years, just married for only 2 of those years. We had hoped to go out for a sushi dinner as that is a rare treat for us (it just gets too expensive!). But we were having issues with finding a sitter and then we were asked if we could babysit for someone. So we decided we are going to postpone our anniversary sushi dinner until Saturday. We could use the money for sitting tonight, plus this weekend is the family reunion on my in-law's side which is a 3 day event (Fri-Sun) and we already made plans for the kids to spend the night at my MIL's house Saturday so the kids could play with some of their distant cousins that are their age while they are in town.
And Saturday my manager is taking the office out for a live comedy show at the Tempe Improv, so me and my husband decided that after we go to the show, we will go have our sushi dinner since we will be in that part of town anyways. And this weekend I am not babysitting anyone! I am just going to take it easy for once and enjoy visiting with family, enjoy a free comedy show, and enjoy some alone time with my husband and going out for sushi, especially since once the baby is born, I don't know when I will get a weekend of downtime again.
