Working on Marriage - Challenge to My Readers
With all that has happened in our lives and then the everyday tasks, it is easy to loose that feeling of closeness with your partner. You begin to fall into a rut with your everyday chores, routines and responsibilities from getting up, getting the kids off to school, work, dinner, bedtimes, bills, errands etc... And you can start to loose that contact with your partner and take for granted all that they do and are for you. Even resent the little things that annoy or you think could be better. From the numerous articles and stories you hear, this happens in all relationships, whether it be months in or years in and can happen and happen more than once throughout a relationship. But after reading about or listening to many couples who have been together for MANY years, they all seem to say the same things and that is to pick your battles, not to forget the good things and appreciate your partner and treat them well as the keys to making things last...
Taking this to heart and examining my own marriage I want to make some changes for the good. My husband and I haven't been married too long, just 4 years, but we have been together for about 8 1/2 years. Over that time we have seen a number of obstacles and have been in our own ruts. I don't take vows lightly and I know he doesn't either. So I wanted to come up with a way to really show appreciation for all the small things and to show my sincerity I wanted to show these feelings publicly. In a world of technology I found the public forum of Facebook to be perfect and I started my own challenge- Starting January 1, 2013 I have posted one of the reasons that I love my husband and every day since posted a different reason. Everyday I log in with the intent and purpose to post a new reason. This may seem like a simple task but that is 365 individual reasons that I will be posting. I even made a list of them all, which I add to constantly, so I don't accidentally repeat one. In doing this, not only am I showing my husband what all I love and appreciate about him, but I am also reminding myself of why I love him and keeping that feeling of the "honeymoon stage" alive as I come up with each new reason. It keeps the positive fresh in my mind so I don't fall into day to day routines and only remember the negative times causing ruts.
This is a challenge I am giving to everyone who is currently in a relationship- Every day for an entire year (and hey, if you want to go for longer than a year be my guest!), tell your partner a new/different reason you love them.
